What is the California EDD fax number for unemployment?

  • For the paper Unemployment Insurance Application (DE 1101I), EDD lists 1-866-215-9159 as the fax number.
  • All 4 English versions on EDD's site list that number: worked in California, worked in California and another state, served in the military, and worked for the federal government.
  • EDD says to fax to the number listed on the form, so check the copy you're sending.
  • For any other EDD form or letter, use the fax number printed on it. This number is for the application.

When should you fax your EDD unemployment application?

  • EDD says applying online through myEDD is much faster. Use the paper application when you need or prefer to apply by fax.
  • Combined wage claims, if you worked in California and another state in the last 18 months, can only be filed by phone, fax or mail.
  • To reopen a claim on paper, fax the same DE 1101I application. EDD says faxing it gets faster, more secure processing than mailing it.

Before you send

  • Download the application from EDD's forms page. If you aren't sure which version to use, EDD says to use "Worked in California."
  • Fill it out in English or Spanish. EDD says to print or type, in blue or black ink only.
  • Complete every question on every page. EDD warns that an incomplete application can delay your claim.
  • The last page says "Do not mail or fax this page." Leave it out of the fax and keep it for your records.

Steps

  1. Open ClearFax and scan the application with the camera, or import the PDF from Files.
  2. Remove the last page, and any other page you don't want to send.
  3. Enter 1-866-215-9159, or the number on your form. ClearFax checks the number before you pay.
  4. Check the pages and the price, then send.
  5. Follow the fax network's status as it sends.
  6. Keep the receipt PDF from your history.

After you send

  • After faxing your application, allow 10 days for processing. EDD sends claim materials by mail.
  • If no claim materials arrive within 10 days, call EDD at 1-800-300-5616 (English) or 1-800-326-8937 (Spanish).

Every fax that goes through gets a receipt PDF: destination, page count, when it was sent and completed, the fax network's result, and a support code. A successful send means the fax network reported the transmission complete, not that a person read or accepted it.

If the fax fails

  • If the fax network reports a failed or partial send, your purchase isn't used up.
  • One purchase covers one successful fax, and another try with the same pages is included. The app shows the exact number of attempts before you pay.
  • You can fix the fax number and resend at no extra charge, with the same pages.
  • If every attempt fails, the purchase ends and the app shows your job ID.

Questions

What is the EDD fax number for an unemployment application?
